2017 Photo Contest

We love seeing the research you conduct in the field. Send us photos of your field work and we'll award a Grand Prize package along with a prize to the runner-up entry. We'll also publish your photo on the back cover of Fisheries Magazine and on Fisheries.org.

Grand prize winner will receive Smith-Root Electric Fish Handling Gloves, a voucher for our Electrofishing Principles and Training Certification Course, and publication of their photo.

First runner-up will receive a voucher for our Electrofishing Principles and Training Certification Course and publication of their photo.

One photo per submission. Multiple submissions are permitted. Please provide valid contact information so we can get in touch with the winners.

Files must be less than 100 MB. Allowed file types: png gif jpg jpeg.

Please tell us a little about your photo. What equipment is being used? Who are the people involved? Water body? Fish species? When was the picture taken?

Official Rules

  • 1. Entry in this contest is limited exclusively to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and legally competent to bind oneself to a contract in his/her own name.
  • 2. Each person entering this photo contest must have personally taken the photo submitted. By submitting an entry, you certify this is your work and it is free of copyright elsewhere. The photo submitted must never have been previously published, exhibited publicly, or selected as a winner in any other contest.
  • 3. Your photograph should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared in the viewfinder. Nothing may be added to the image and, aside from dust spots, nothing may be removed. Cropping and minor adjustments to electronic images to convert RAW/NEF data files are acceptable.
  • 4. You must not infringe upon the rights of any other photographer, landowner, or any other person while taking photographs for possible entry in this contest. Photos involving willful harassment of wildlife or destruction of any property are unacceptable.
  • 5. You agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the judges. By submitting your entry, you certify that you have read, understand, and consent to be bound to the legal guidelines of the contest, which can be found here.
