The American Fisheries Society (AFS) has recently released a Policy Statement describing the need for an immediate-release fish sedative. Smith-Root supports this initiative. Our Science Department (led by Carl Burger, an AFS Past President) has worked with the AFS Fish Culture Section leadership (e.g. Dr. Jesse Trushenski; Jim Bowker et al.) to help suggest ways to garner more support for streamlining the government approval process for an immediate-release chemical sedative.

As part of its advisory and education role the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) runs various training courses. Since taking on the salmon research group at East Stoke this training has included Electric Fishing training. The largest gathering of the American Fisheries Society ever provided the perfect forum for Smith-Root to showcase its complete line of fish conservation equipment and services during the conference’s 3-day trade show.

Nearly 4,000 attendees took part in the five days of events at the Washington State Convention Center. This year’s theme was “New Frontiers in Fisheries Management and Ecology: Leading the Way in a Changing World.”

12th Annual Klineline Kids Fishing Event a Huge Success!

Thousands of people, including 1,700 registered child fishers, participated in this years Klineline Kids Fishing event. The event, put on by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) along with a host of volunteers from various organizations has grown to become on of the state’s largest youth fishing programs.

Smith-Root was fortunate to participate in this great community event. As one of many local sponsors, Smith-Root’s participation helped pay for fishing rods given to each participant as well as two bikes awarded to the largest catch per round: one for the 5- to 9-year-old bracket and another for the 10- to 14-year-old bracket.
