Barrier Site: Pere Marquette River
Pere Marquette River

Location: Custer Township, Michigan

Year: 1999

Barrier Type: Bottom mounted steel electrodes on a wooden deck.

Pulsators: 6ea. - 1.5KVA POW

Status: A retrofitted older electric fish barrier designed to block upstream migration of Atlantic Sea Lamprey into spawning habitat. The electric fish barrier is used in conjunction with a pumped fish bypass channel and a sea lamprey trap. The barrier reduces the need for expensive Lamprey killing chemicals in the headwaters. There are currently five Smith-Root electric fish barriers in Michigan.
